Science at the Leading Edge of Option I

The Human Brain Project is intended to having the potential to revolutionize technology, medicine, neuroscience, and society. After all it is time, since "we" have hardly learnt anything from all the human catastrophes. And if an individual does, he is mobbed into ineffectiveness. Thus the project will also have to throw new light on questions human beings have been asking for the past 5000 years since the first Pharaoh in vain what it means to perceive, to think, to remember, to learn, to know, to decide, to be conscious and to living together in a desirable way. This requires more than a mere technical models of the brain and with it revolutionizing information technology, allowing us to design computers, robots, sensors and other devices far more powerful, more intelligent and more energy efficient than any we know today. This in itself might help us understand the root causes of brain diseases, to diagnose them early, to develop new treatments, and to reduce reliance on animal testing. That is necessary but not sufficient to understand what a desirable society requires; life- through task-fulfillment on LifeFulfilling Platforms! Only then will the benefits for society be as expected, under Option II, not just huge, but fundamentally desirable.

The discovery of more realistic new principles of brain design need to be framed in the understanding of what takes place individually in terms of the principle of lifefulfillment of participants in a collective. Until organized science accepts this precondition and thus replaces the still prevailing run for mass-attractivity by simply generalizing, experimental and clinical data is going on to accumulate exponentially beyond the capacity to understanding their meaning . Beyond the projected breakthroughs in mathematics, software engineering, and international supercomputing facility, and social responsibility, we require the capability to model personal lifefulfillment. Beyond integrating everything we know about the brain in massive databases and in detailed computer models, we need to understand what each of our brains are for, for the knowledge work for lifefulfillment! And that is a topic beyond the best neuroscientists, doctors, physicists, mathematicians, computer engineers and ethicists! The brain is no substitute for society and that is non for the individual to use energy efficient, being sustainable in terms of self-learning, and self-repairing. Only if a critical number of individual can understand and not just mimic and talk, but walk the way that works, can we make sense of even a generalized brain. Only then can we truly revolutionize information technology, medicine, and society. Otherwise we just get pseudo-revolution as in Egypt 2011 where the president was made to go but his military entourage kept the power. Only if we do justice to the lifefulfillment of those concerned, can a reframing of society beyond the prevail thinking catastrophes, the so far cultivated Option I, towards Option II, fostering lifefulfillment of as many as possible, take place. To do so we have to bring together not just everything we know and everything we can learn, but the best of personal understanding beyond that of the rat cortical column. The latter is in fact the corner stone displaced from science as a stumbling block. In particular, we have to produced a new understanding of the rules determining not just the structure of neuronal circuits, but those of a desirable turnaround to an Option II society which converges to the lifefulfillment of as many as possible. And that is, intellectually speaking far simpler than we are made to believe by Option I fixated intellectuals and proper scientists under their spell. Contrary to the cancerous complexity humanity has maneuvered itself in under the spell of Option I set in motion 5000 years ago by the first Pharaoh, Option II is the cradle for lifefulfillment. This requires reverse engineer beyond the mammalian brain but how to build LifeFulfilling Platforms based on the principle of lifefulfillment of those concerned.

Science organized under Option I is now aiming at an efficient Brain Simulation Facility that is said to produce a flow of ever more accurate and detailed models, in a regular production cycle. In 2011 the facility at the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne includes a tightly structured multi-stage production process, powerful infrastructures for data acquisition and supercomputing and an ever-expanding suite of custom software applications. These capabilities are regularly used to run in silico experiments (in the silicon chips as computer simulations) to validate the model and to test scientific hypotheses about the structure and function of the brain. Meanwhile the generated models show a behavior already observed in years of neuroscientific experiments. In terms of science under Option II, this would require reverse engineering the know myths, ideologies and paradigms by which societies were so far organized under Option I - as we can know now, in their innate dynamics, as formally closed upon themselves, self-destructive systems. Since 1979 I have indeed modeled all of that. However not by primarily focusing on that Option I purpose, but from the other end; from an understanding the possible individual potentials for lifefulfillment as a whole, beyond what societies so far aimed at, the content-free technical, the personally-neutral humanistic, and the artistic potential of humans cultivated and infotained under Option I.

From 1975-79 I introduced the digital simulation of cryptological devices in the Swiss Army at the leading edge of what was then possible. When I had relevant results, those responsible did not want to implement them; it was easier to not see and not hear. In 2011 we know that this ignorance caused all the major catastrophes up to Fukushima. In 1997 Think Tool suggested it had the tools to amplify the thinking of managers, but by 2003 the bubble blew as a great stock exchange bluff. In fact humanity has amplified its strength beyond what it can control; if a brain does that, its bearer is called crazy. So what we need is not more M=manipulation know-how and its delegation to the content-free laws of nature with technology, but more O=orientation knowledge how to fulfill our lives and above all, considering the latter when using the former. Humans cannot escape the basic relationship of life, M / O =STRESS < DEATH and therefore ignoring it, turns the best science from the possible blessing, to a curse! In 2010/11 the signs spread exponentially on all walls despite all the increasing instrumentalizations of brains from top to bottom, from philosophy via rhetoric into politics, management, universities, and via the media and psycho-politics into all brains to create the illusion that we live in the best possible world, and that there is no alternative to Option I. This has made people hate and fear more encompassing explanations than the mental Option I "Flat Earth Society" allows as politically correct, in order to protect its corresponding thinking catastrophes and its communication habits despising real human systems. The resulting forms of organization infotain and confine real human being, the only entity capable of understanding to mono-political madness of the spirit of the time...
